Diastasis Rectus Abdominis Repair

Diastasis (or separation) of the Rectus Abdominis muscle is a common condition following pregnancy, or after many years of abnormal abdominal loading.

Diastasis Rectus Abdominis (DRA) can lead to impairment of abdominal wall function, and secondary loss of core strength. This anatomic injury causes biomechanical strain, leading to multiple symptoms including: low and mid back pain, pelvic girdle pain, urinary incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse. Physiotherapy can help some women improve their muscle separation, while others require surgical intervention. What appears essential is the ability to generate tension between the recti in order to create and maintain core strength.

Dr Demianczuk continues to work closely with physiotherapists who are world leaders in the understanding and management of DRA. In a DRA repair, the rectus muscles are repaired, recreating normal anatomy, and thereby allowing tension to form across the core muscles. This procedure is very effective in reducing DRA associated symptoms, while simultaneously improving the patient’s physical appearance.

Had surgery with Dr. D about 7 months ago for repair of my wide rectus diastasis. I had seen several other surgeons prior to him and was impressed with his demeanor and knowledge. The consultation was very thorough . Everything went well with the surgery. I’m very happy with the results and have noticed significant improvement in core strength. I would strongly recommend him for rectus repair.
