Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a non-invasive treatment that uses pulses of light to penetrate the skin and tissue and create heat. This heat triggers the body’s natural healing process, which removes the damaged tissue and increases collagen and elastin production for smoother, younger, and healthier-looking skin.
Dr. Arko Demianczuk uses the Lumenis® Optima™ IPL Photorejuvenation treatment at his practice. This FDA-cleared treatment not only addresses pigmentation concerns and rosacea, but it can also reduce the appearance of unwanted blood vessels and create a more youthful appearance. And because there is no downtime, you can get back to living your life almost immediately.
Why IPL Photorejuvenation?
There are so many reasons to choose IPL photorejuvenation with Dr. Demianczuk. It can improve the appearance of the skin and erase pigmentation, age spots, and broken capillaries. It’s also a gentle and highly effective treatment that can help you look younger. This IPL treatment is also very quick. You’ll be in and out of our office in no time.
What Should I Expect?
IPL Photorejuvenation treatment works with your body to remove skin imperfections over a series of treatments. Some skin concerns only require 1-2 treatment sessions, while others may need more sessions.
On average, patients require 2-6 sessions spaced 2-4 weeks apart. During your consultation, Dr. Demianczuk will review your medical history and examine your skin to determine how many treatment sessions you will need.
What Can I Expect After Treatment?
After your IPL treatment, you will likely experience some redness, but that will dissipate within a couple of hours.
Typically, you will be able to go back to most of your normal activities, including wearing makeup, immediately after treatment. That said, you will want to avoid direct sun exposure. Additionally, applying sunscreen regularly after treatment is vital to ensure you achieve the best results.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Frequently Asked Questions
Is the treatment painful?
You will experience a mild sting or snapping sensation as the gentle pulses of therapeutic light are passed over your skin. The sensation is quite comfortable and easily tolerated. The Palomar system’s built in chill tip minimizes the heat sensation and settings are always adjusted for individual comfort. Some of our clients describe it as an elastic band snapping on your skin.
Topical anaesthetic creams are not required for IPL but are available for individuals who wish to numb the skin prior to treatment.
How many treatments are required?
A series of 3-5 treatments are recommended for optimal results. Each treatment takes less than one hour to perform. Treatments are scheduled approximately 4-5 weeks apart. Treatments within a series can be postponed if you plan a holiday or you have tanned skin. We assess the skin prior to every treatment to review your progress and ensure the skin condition is appropriate.
How will my skin look and feel?
Your skin may look slightly flushed and feel warm. After the treatment the aesthetician will provide you with an ice roller to cool the skin and ice packets to take home for comfort. A soothing post procedure balm and SPF lotion is applied to the skin for sun protection and hydration.
How long do the results last?
The results achieved from the treatment series can be expected to last for several years with proper homecare and sun protection. IPL photorejuvenation can dramatically reverse and correct many visible signs of aging and sun damage. However, with the passage of time and with environmental exposure, skin ages as we do. The improvement from a series of treatments can be easily maintained with a touch up every 6 months.
