Neck Lift

Despite the effects of aging, many individuals desire to improve their appearance of sagging skin, jowls, and lack of jawline definition through neck lift surgery. Dr Demianczuk offers surgical procedures tailored to each patient to help them achieve their goals. Neck lift procedures can be combined with facelifts, eyelid surgery, or brow lifts, and together can strengthen their appearance by creating a younger appearance.

A surgical neck lift is a transformative option that helps address visible signs of aging in the neck area. By removing excess skin and tightening the underlying muscles, the procedure improves definition and supports a more youthful appearance.

What is a Neck Lift?

A neck lift removes excess sagging skin from the neck, resulting in a more youthful look. Dr Demianczuk performs various neck lift techniques in order to correct sagging skin, fine lines and wrinkles, droopy jowls, and a loss of jawline definition.  This procedure places the incisions under the chin and the hairline by the ears, resulting in a minimally visible scar. A natural and smooth facial contour can be achieved without over-tightening. For individuals with excess fat, neck liposuction may be used to remove fat cells and enhance jawline contour. In cases of excess skin and fat, a more comprehensive lift can offer smoother and firmer results. Tightening the neck muscles and lifting the skin beneath the chin effectively targets skin aging and restores harmony to the facial profile.

Neck Lift Cosmetic Surgery Procedure

Neck lift procedures are performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia with twilight sedation as an outpatient procedure in an accredited surgical facility. The length of the surgery will vary, but it generally takes between three and four hours. This surgery is considered an outpatient procedure. After surgery, patients will be dressed with a head wrap that is removed two days after surgery.

Neck Lift Results and Recovery

There will be mild bruising and swelling of the neck. This will gradually improve within a few days. The scars associated with neck lift surgery are usually well hidden under the chin, curvatures of the ear, and within the hairline and will fade over time. Most patients will need one week off work following surgery, and can resume full activities after six weeks. Patients are typically advised to keep their head elevated during recovery to help reduce swelling.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a neck lift procedure typically take?

A neck lift surgery usually takes between 3 to 5 hours to complete, depending on the extent of the procedure and whether its combined with other treatments. In necklift procedures, fat can be added to the face through fat grafting, or can be removed with liposuction. In some instances, an incision is made under the chin to remove fat, and tighten the neck muscles.

What is the average recovery time after a neck lift?

Most patients can return to daily activities and work within 2 weeks after surgery. However, full recovery, including the subsiding of residual swelling, can take several months.

Will there be visible scars after a neck lift?

Incisions are typically made in inconspicuous areas such as behind the hairline, around the ear, and sometimes under the chin. While there will be scars, they are usually well-concealed and fade over time. Dr. Demianczuk utilizes post operative laser therapy to reduce the appearance of surgical scars. These laser treatments begin 6-12 weeks after surgery, and typically 3-4 treatments are required.

What type of anesthesia is used for a neck lift?

Neck lift surgeries are usually performed under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation with local anesthesia. The procedure is done in an accredited operating room, under the care of a Board Certified Anesthesiologist.

When will I see the final results of my neck lift?

While improvements are noticeable within weeks, the final results of a neck lift may not be fully apparent for several months as swelling subsides and tissues settle

What is best age for a neck lift?

The common age range for patients who undergo a facelift is 50-70. However, younger patients aged 40-50 years can still benefit. In patients under 40, non-surgical techniques are usually recommended.

Is there a non-surgical option?

BOTOX, injectable fillers, microdermabrasion, and chemical peels are examples of some nonsurgical neck lift procedures that can assist in smoothing out wrinkles, improving fine lines and adding volume. These procedures also help to even out skin tone. However, these are treatments that will only affect the skin’s surface. Patients with loose skin, drooping jowls or a sagging neck will need to consider surgery if they want these features improved.

Will I look unnatural or fake?

No. Dr Demianczuk will make every effort to work within the confines of the patient’s bone, skin and muscle structures to achieve a younger, more natural look.

Can a neck lift be combined with other facial procedures?

Yes, a neck lift is often combined with other facial procedures to achieve more comprehensive and balanced rejuvenation. One common face and neck surgical combination is a brow lift, which addresses sagging in the upper face and forehead. Patients may also choose to enhance their results by incorporating procedures that target a double chin or stubborn fat beneath the jawline. Additionally, patients with severely lax neck skin may benefit from incorporating advanced neck skin tightening techniques alongside their lift for a smoother, firmer neckline.
