Tummy Tuck / Abdominoplasty

A tummy tuck, known as abdominoplasty, is a cosmetic surgery procedure in which Dr. Demianczuk removes excess fat and skin from the stomach while tightening the muscles to create an improved abdominal contour. Abdominoplasty is a popular surgery among women following pregnancy, or in men following substantial weight loss. During the consultation, an individualized surgical plan will be created depending on the anatomy and aesthetic goals of the patient.

Who Can Benefit From a Tummy Tuck?

A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is an effective cosmetic surgery option for individuals who struggle with excess skin, loose abdominal muscles, or stubborn fatty tissue in the abdominal area that doesn’t respond to diet and exercise. This surgical procedure is especially beneficial for:

  • Women with stretched skin and weakened abdominal muscles after pregnancy
  • Men and women following significant weight loss or weight fluctuations
  • Individuals with stretch marks or hanging skin in the lower abdomen
  • Patients with a stable weight who have realistic expectations

Candidates for tummy tuck surgery should be in good health, follow a healthy lifestyle, and need to refrain from smoking for at least 8 weeks prior to surgery.  During your tummy tuck consultation, Dr. Demianczuk will evaluate your medical history, skin quality, and overall health to determine the best approach for your needs.

Tummy Tuck Techniques

At Pacific Plastic Surgery, we offer a range of tummy tuck options tailored to your anatomy and goals. Each tummy tuck procedure is designed to remove excess skin and fat, tighten muscles, and enhance your flatter abdominal contour:

Full Tummy Tuck

Also known as a full abdominoplasty, a traditional tummy tuck addresses the full abdominal region from the pubic hair line up to the upper abdomen. Dr. Demianczuk removes excess fat and skin, repairs the abdominal wall, and repositions the belly button for a natural appearance. The incision line usually extends from hip to hip and is carefully placed to be concealed below the bikini line. This procedure is frequently combined with abdominal and flank liposuction in order to provide the ideal result.

Mini Tummy Tuck

A mini tummy tuck, also called mini abdominoplasty, is suitable for patients with minor skin and fat excess in the lower abdomen. It’s less invasive than a typical tummy tuck, with a smaller incision site and no need to reposition the belly button. Recovery time is typically shorter, and the tummy tuck scar is well hidden in the bikini line. This procedure is for patients who have minimal excess fat and skin in the lower abdomen. This procedure is frequently combined with abdominal and flank liposuction in order to provide the ideal result.

Extended Tummy Tuck

An extended tummy tuck is designed for patients with extra skin and fat extending to the flanks and lower back, often due to massive weight loss. This long scar abdominoplasty, also known as a belt lipectomy, offers the benefits of a traditional tummy tuck, with additional contouring around the hips. This procedure is frequently combined with abdominal and flank liposuction in order to provide the ideal result. The lateral incision is also used to elevate the lateral thigh, thereby creating an improved hip contour.

The Surgical Experience

A tummy tuck is performed under general anaesthesia in an accredited surgical facility and typically takes 2-3 hours to complete. It is considered an outpatient procedure. It is frequently combined with liposuction. After surgery, patients will wear a compression garment for 6-8  weeks. Patients will be encouraged to move around after surgery in order to promote blood circulation. Most patients will need 2 weeks off work following surgery, and can resume full activities after 6 weeks.

What is a Tummy Tuck?

A tummy tuck is a cosmetic surgery designed to improve the shape and tone of the abdomen by removing excess skin and fat while tightening the abdominal muscles. This procedure is ideal for women after pregnancy and for individuals of any gender who have undergone significant weight loss. In addition to removing loose tissue, the surgery helps address weakened or separated muscles, resulting in a more sculpted appearance. During the consultation, Dr. Demianczuk evaluates your anatomy and discusses your goals to create a tailored surgical plan that aligns with your aesthetic goals.

Candidates for a Tummy Tuck

Ideal candidates for abdominoplasty are healthy individuals who are close to their goal weight but struggle with loose skin, weakened abdominal muscles, or localized fat that has not responded to diet and exercise. Non-smokers with realistic expectations and a stable weight are often good candidates. Patients planning future pregnancies or substantial weight changes are advised to wait before undergoing this procedure.

The Tummy Tuck Procedure

Abdominoplasty is performed under general anesthesia in a fully accredited surgical facility. The surgery generally lasts two to three hours and is an outpatient procedure. In many cases, liposuction is performed simultaneously to enhance the final results. Dr. Demianczuk makes incisions low on the abdomen, and tightens the underlying muscles before removing excess skin and fat.

Tummy Tuck Recovery

As this is typically an outpatient procedure, most tummy tuck patients return home on the same day. A compression garment is worn for 6 to 8 weeks to help reduce swelling and support the abdominal area. Temporary drainage tubes may be placed to prevent excess fluid buildup at the incision site. Patients are encouraged to start walking lightly soon after surgery to promote circulation and reduce the risk of blood clots.

Most individuals take 1 to 2 weeks off from work and are advised to avoid lifting heavy objects for 4 to 6 weeks after the injury. Complete activities can usually be resumed after six weeks. However, factors such as poor wound healing, previous surgeries, or weight gain after the procedure may affect the outcome.

Tummy Tuck Results

The results of a tummy tuck are long-lasting when supported by a healthy lifestyle. Patients notice a flatter abdomen, improved posture, and improved confidence.

Before & After

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a tummy tuck be combined with other operations?

Abdominoplasty can be combined with another cosmetic procedure, such as breast augmentation, a breast lift or liposuction that targets another area of the body. This is sometimes referred to as a Mommy Makeover and is considered common practice, especially where pregnancy, weight gain and breast-feeding are concerned.

Can I get pregnant after a tummy tuck?

For optimal results, it is recommended that patients wait to have an abdominoplasty until their family has been completed. This is to ensure the stretching and weight gain that occurs with pregnancy does not compromise the results of the surgery. If performed after weight loss, it is recommended to have an abdominoplasty once the patient approaches their goal weight.

Will there be scarring?

Unfortunately, scarring is a part of this procedure, however, every effort is made to minimize scarring, and the incisions are generally placed in locations easily concealed by undergarments. For women who have had a previous C-section, the original C-section scar will be replaced with the tummy tuck incision. Most patients feel the physical results of this surgery far outweigh any scarring left behind.
