4 signs you are ready for a Mommy Makeover

Childbirth is one of the most joyful experiences in a woman’s life, however pregnancy and breastfeeding creates many unexpected physical changes in a woman’s body. A “mommy makeover” can help a mother restore her body to her pre-pregnancy shape, and turn back the clock. Pregnancy may have left you with deflated breasts, stretch marks in the abdomen, skin laxity and unwanted pockets of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise.

Dr. Arko Demianczuk of Pacific Plastic Surgery in Vancouver is an experienced Plastic Surgeon, with expertise in the multiple procedures associated with a mommy makeover. A mommy makeover is a combination of cosmetic surgery procedures, such as breast lift (mastopexy), breast augmentation, tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), and liposuction.

Here is how you can tell if you are a great candidate for Mommy Makeover:

1) Your family planning is complete

Having a baby after a mommy maker is physically possible, however future pregnancy can negatively impact the final results, leading to revision surgery. It is therefore recommended to postpone the procedure until you are sure you won’t have any future pregnancies.

2) You’ve completely weaned your child

If you are considering incorporating a breast procedure into your mommy makeover, you should wait until your breasts have stabilized after weaning your baby to schedule a consultation. It is smart to wait at least three to six months after you’ve stopped breastfeeding your baby.

3) You’re close to your ideal body weight

The quality of your results will be improved if you are close to your ideal weight. If you have experienced substantial weight gain during pregnancy, you should try, as much as possible, to return to your pre pregnancy weight through a program of diet and exercise. Mommy makeover does not include weight loss surgery. A tummy tuck is intended to address loose skin in the abdominal area. Liposuction will address stubborn fat deposits that are resistant to your active lifestyle and diet.

4) You have time and support for surgery and recovery

After a Mommy Makeover, you’ll need to plan for a few weeks of recovery time. During this period, you will be restricted in your activities, such as lifting heavy items, twisting or using core muscles. In the early post operative period, it is important that you do not exert yourself. Ideally, you should schedule your surgery for a time when someone is able to help you with chores and childcare.

Dr. Arko Demianczuk will work with you and recommend a bespoke combination of procedures that will help you achieve your desired cosmetic results.
