Breast Reduction Surgeon in Vancouver

Women may wish to have a breast reduction for many personal reasons, including:

  • Reducing neck, back, and shoulder pain caused by the weight of heavy breasts
  • Improving self-confidence about breast size
  • Decreasing breast size to be in proportion with body frame
  • Redirecting nipple position
  • Relieving chafing and skin irritation caused by sagging breast skin
  • Balancing the size of asymmetrical breasts

During this surgery, excess fat, tissue, and skin are removed from the breasts, which are then reshaped to a more desirable and proportionate size.

The Surgical Experience

A breast reduction is performed under general anesthesia at an accredited surgical facility as an outpatient procedure. It typically takes about 2 hours to complete. For the first several weeks, patients will be directed to wear a surgical bra or compression garment. This procedure is frequently combined with liposuction to remove excess fatty deposits along the bra line. Most patients are able to return to work within 1-2 weeks, and may begin exercising by 4-6 weeks. The visible results of a breast reduction will be immediate, however, it may take 6 months or longer for the breasts to achieve their final shape and size.

Cost

The average cost for a breast reduction is about $13,000-$15,000.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will I be able to breast feed after breast reduction surgery?

Yes. In most breast reductions, the connection between the milk ducts and the nipple remain intact thereby allowing for breast feeding. However, the volume of milk produced may be diminished, and there is no guarantee that breast feeding will be successful.

Is there a chance the breasts will become larger again?

Breast hypertrophy may occur again if the patient gains substantial weight after surgery, or becomes pregnant. The risk of regrowth is higher in a younger patient whose breasts are still developing.

Is my risk of breast cancer increased, or decreased with this surgery?

There is no change in your pre surgical risk of developing breast cancer following breast reduction surgery.
